Culture by Design: How Leaders Shape the Rooms They Enter

About this session
“Culture by Design: How Leaders Shape the Rooms They Enter” — Dr. Jordan Jones & Bernardo Garza (Saturday, 10:20 AM). Kimberly attended this session.
What the session explored
One slide, “The Culture Leaders Create,” named four parts of culture with a question each: Trust (Can I be honest?), Ownership (Can I lead?), Belonging (Do I matter?) and Legacy (What remains?). A second slide said trust is not the absence of accountability, and that it grows when people can speak honestly — through clear communication, room for questions and disagreement, and addressing concerns directly and fairly.
Kimberly’s reflection
Culture is not a poster on the wall. It is the sum of small choices: who gets heard, how mistakes are handled, and whether people can see a place for themselves.
For a new member
A new member can shape culture right away by listening first and making room for others to contribute.
From the session slide

Trust

“Can I be honest?”

Ownership

“Can I lead?”

Belonging

“Do I matter?”

Legacy

“What remains?”

These four concepts and questions come from the Culture by Design session slide.
Next-step question
In the groups I belong to, what is one habit that helps people feel they belong — and one that gets in the way?
